Books read: January ’17

janwrapupThe first month of 2017 is over! Time flies when you’re pregnant. Because I have to rest for a bit every day, I get a lot of reading done. I’ve set my book challenge on Goodreads on 25 books this year, not that much. But because of our daughter who will be born in february, I don’t know how much reading I’ll get done, so I set the bar low. I did read a good amount of books this month though, so here’s the list:

  1. J. K. Rowling – Harry Potter and the Chamber of secrets (Illustrated by Jim Kay)
Now that a new illustrated edition of the Harry Potter books is published every year, I’m starting 2017 with The Chamber of Secrets, the illustrated books that come out in October every year is a perfect item on my Christmas wish list! Not my fave Harry Potter book, but it sure is fun to see all the beautiful illustrations by Jim Kay.
  2. Sarah J. Maas – Throne of Glass
It took a while before I finally ordered the first book in this series, I don’t know why, because I loved this book!
  3. Laini Taylor – Daughter of Smoke and Bone
This was also a Christmas gift, I got the whole boxed set, yass! Another fantasy YA story which I absolutely adored. I love a strong female character in a book and like Throne of Glass, this book has one too. I didn’t like the ‘epic’ love story, it’s a bit too much and unrealistic, but I’m curious about how the story will go further in the rest of the trilogy.
  4. Robert Galbraith – The Silkworm
I don’t know why, but like The Cuckoo’s Calling it took a while to really get into it. But when I was I really enjoyed the story. It took me longer than usual to finish it and I’m not sure why that is. The story is interesting enough and there’s enough mystery for me to keep on grabbing the book and read on. I have to buy the thirth book now..

Total books read in 2017: 4
